Traditional Tarot Reading

Tarot is traditionally a method of divination, interpreting the pictures and symbols on a series of cards. The Tarot covers all aspects of life within its rich symbolism and layers of meaning. Everything on a Tarot card can be interpreted - the colours, the numbers, the pictures and the symbols.

Most Tarot decks consist of 78 cards - 22 Major Arcana and 56 Minor Arcana cards. Arcana means 'mystery','hidden' or 'secret'. The Major Arcana are like the Trump cards.The Minor Arcana are split into four suits, cups, wands, swords and pentacles, which each relate to different areas of day to day life. Each card represents a person or experience we encounter in our lives, the physical and spiritual forces that affect us, different aspects of ourselves, lessons to be learned in life.

There are many different Tarot spreads - ways of laying out the cards to do a reading, for example the Celtic Cross. Each position in a spread gives a different significance to a card e.g. the past, hopes and fears, possible outcome etc.

Please don't be worried by any of the cards, for example the Death card does not predict death! In fact, at Discovery our emphasis is not on prediction. Tarot can provide guidance on issues or questions in your life, it can help you to understand your situation, put things into perspective, and clarify your decision making. We don't believe in telling people what to do, neither do we believe that the future is set in stone. You have free will and control over your direction in life, it is not all fated!
